On Songs of Hope on 18Jun17 we played the track “The voice of the Australian flag” by John Downes. Yesterday, the 3rd of September, was Australian National Flag Day, celebrating the launch of Australia’s flag on 3Sep1901. On 1Jan1901 Australia became an independent nation, independent of Britain without a shot being fired. On 9Sep1901 our first Federal parliament met at the Royal Exhibition Buildings in Melbourne.
