Federation Day 1 Jan

The first Governor General Lord Hopetoun  and the first Prime Minister of Australia were sworn in in Sydney and the agreed constitution of Australia proclaimed. Here is Songs of Hope story.

The picture above is a real photograph of the crowds at the federation ceremony on 1 Jan 1901. The oaths were taken in the white pavillion.
The video below is an actual film taken of Archbishop Smith waiting for the arrival of  Lord Hopetoun and Edmund Barton in the pavillion in 1901. The film was taken by the Salvation Army.
